The study of Drama encourages pupils to develop and refine artistic, aesthetic, historical, literary, cultural and moral judgement.

We help girls to develop practical, artistic, technical and organisational skills. From lighting and sound to stage management, make-up, costume, front of house and acting itself, there are so many opportunities for each girl to find her role and her strengths.

Drama at Mayfield is about theatre skills and drama education. Theatre is concerned with the acquisition of skills and techniques necessary for performing to an audience, educational drama promotes the emotional development of our girls. It is a means of exploring, learning and understanding the world in which we live.

The Drama department offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere fostering a sense of enjoyment where students can develop their communication skills, self-esteem and confidence and encouraging  participation from every part of the school community

Our drama productions are often staged with local boys’ schools.  We take a production on tour every two years and participate in the biennial Mayfield Festival. We organise frequent theatre visits both locally and to London, and run a Gifted & Talented programme for Year 8 and 9 girls.

Individual and shared Speech and Drama lessons are popular, preparing girls for LAMDA examinations.
