Mayfield girls achieve
school’s finest ever GCSE results
Year 11
pupils are celebrating
the school’s finest ever set of GCSE results, with 71% of all results at grades
A* or A, the highest percentage of A*/A grades in the school’s history.
Nineteen girls achieved ten or more A*/A grades and in four subjects –
Ceramics, Chinese, Ancient Greek and Italian – 100% of grades were at A* or A.
Leading the
field was Academic Scholar Pattie Wyllie,
who achieved an outstanding 12 A*s. Pattie will now move into Mayfield’s Sixth
Form, where she will study English, Latin, History, Ceramics and Ancient Greek.
Charlotte Wooley, also one of the school’s Academic Scholars,
achieved 11 A*s and 1A and is expected to study Maths, Biology, Chemistry and
Spanish. Emily Craig secured 10 A*s and 2 As and will be taking up her place
in Mayfield’s Sixth Form on an Academic and Sports Scholarship, which she
secured earlier in the year. Emily is planning to study A Levels in English,
Art, History and History of Art.
This is
just a small sample of the results for 2009. Every member of Year 11 has
contributed in some way to this record-breaking achievement and should be proud
of the maturity with which they have conducted themselves over the course of
their two-year GCSE course. The staff at school are proud of all that they have
achieved and are looking forward to welcoming them back to Mayfield as Sixth
Formers at the beginning of September.
Headmistress,
Miss Antonia Beary, expressed enormous pride in the girls: “We are delighted that our girls have performed
so well in such a wide range of subjects. Individually they have achieved
outstanding results and have balanced their academic studies with a wide range
of extra-curricular activities. We are
looking forward to them continuing to flourish in the Sixth Form. Whether
studying Maths, Drama, Greek, Biology, Music or, in fact any other subject,
these girls demonstrate that excellent teaching and rigorous working habits
creates both a love of learning and results of which they can be proud.”
