Who wants to be a Mathionniare?

Year 12 Maths Students attended an afternoon entitled The Risk Road Show at Combe Bank School. This was part of the Millennium Mathematics Project, based at Cambridge University.

The presentation, delivered by a lively Australian, was both interesting and educational. The pupils were entranced by her delivery which included demonstrating how scams work in the gambling world and how one can decipher these scams using statistical analyses.

To complete the day, and in a typically competitive manner, the Mayfield girls took up the challenge to beat Combe Bank School in Mathionnaire, which was based on the material covered in the presentation. And true to form, we took first, second and third places. Congratulations to Mrs McGovern, Josie Duggan and Tracy Yip who did us proud!
