Fashion and Fantasy come to Mayfield

The annual Mayfield fashion show was held this year on Saturday 19th June, when the girls mounted a dazzling exhibition entitled ‘Fashion and Fantasy’ in the School’s concert hall. This year’s show was inspired by the fantastical writings of authors like Roald Dahl and Lewis Carroll.

Eighty girls aged from 11 to 18 modelled their own creations, which were designed and built with the help of Head of Textiles, Terri Budden. The girls used their lunchtimes, evenings, weekends and any other spare time they could find to produce the outfits, and were also responsible for choreographing the show.

The costumes included an asymmetric sheath, a dress of fabric roses and even a Lady Gaga-inspired creation. The girls worked in a wide variety of materials, from pure silk to taffeta, cotton to tulle.

Head of Textiles, Terri Budden commented: “The girls study textiles at Mayfield purely for the love of the subject – they aren’t asked to sit a public examination at the end of the course. The quality of the outfits on display, and the imagination with which they approached this year’s theme, reveals the very high standards the girls set themselves.”
