Mayfield’s new Sixth Form Centre was opened officially by His Excellency the Most Reverend Antonio Mennini, Apostolic Nuncio in Great Britain as part of the Anniversary Year Closing Ceremony on Sunday 17th November 2013.
The Sixth Form Centre has made it possible for all girls to have their own dedicated study space. This is a huge benefit as it has made it much easier for girls to manage their very busy workload. From a teacher’s perspective it means that much more gets done, and done well, which has to be a good thing.
The excellent wi-fi provision throughout the building makes it easy for girls to use the internet as a key resource to support their studies. The Centre’s excellent ICT facilities have been of great benefit in a number of ways, including the preparation of girls for university interviews (and the girls have gone on to experience unprecedented success in the actual interviews).
Having a combined common room for Years 12 and 13, having the two year groups sharing study rooms and bringing together day girls and boarders in the new building throughout the day has fostered a greater and more profound sense of community.
The lecture room provides a very good venue for an extensive series of careers presentations by experts. The lectures take place once a month, and have recently covered a range of career areas such as Engineering & Architecture, Medicine & Osteopathy, and PR & Marketing. It has also hosted a variety of meetings, from competitive debating to Prefect team meetings and conferences on specialist educational topics involving guests from outside the School.
