Year 10 Geographers explore River Uck
A glorious English summer's day enabled Year 10 Geographers to enjoy collecting fieldwork data on the River Uck at Hadlow Down on Tuesday. The data will be used to test hypotheses relating to how river characteristics change from source to confluence. Fieldwork data collection and analysis is a demanding but rewarding part of the GCSE Specification.

Year 8 Buddhism Projects
Mrs Kimber’s Year 8 RS class have begun work on their Buddhism projects. Millie, Mabel and Cara have written a short summary of their task below.
Meditation - by Millie, Mabel and Cara
For our Religious Studies project, we made an informative PowerPoint Presentation about meditation in Buddhism. We researched why meditation is a vital aspect of a Buddhist’s life and why it is relevant in today’s society. To engage the audience, we completed a 5-minute guided meditation tutorial and we brought in Ondeh Ondeh, a traditional sweet Indonesian snack that Mabel made at home and everyone enjoyed.
We also made an interactive booklet to include and involve our classmates and add a fun aspect to our presentation. Overall, it was a success and we really enjoyed making and presenting the PowerPoint to the class!!

Success for Mayfield Squad at Hickstead
Mayfield sent a large squad to Hickstead for the Eventers Challenge Championships 2021 and the Jumping with Style Championships (postponed from 2020), over Half Term.
The best riders, who qualified for these two championships from all over the country, competed for National Champion titles.
The hallowed turf at Hickstead is the home of top-level British Show Jumping and has recently expanded its facility to provide new large all-weather arenas that are ideal for Cross Country riding.
For many of the Mayfield horse and rider combinations, it was the first time competing at this prestigious venue, and I am delighted to announce that Mayfield won two National Championships titles: Year 12 Eloise won the Advanced 1.10m Jumping with Style Individual Championships on her horse ‘Blizzard’. Eloise completed a polished round over the technical track for the win.
Year 11 Evie won the Intermediate 90cm Jumping with Style Individual Championships on her young horse Azurite. The mare took exception to the flags at the arena on the previous day, but the extra experience in the arena gave her the confidence to trust Evie, who rode particularly well in the Intermediate class.
Mayfield had a host of other individual JwS placings:
80 Year 7 Matilda
90 Year 12 Eloise, Year 9 Isabella
1m Year 13 Fran, Year 12 Alice & Year 12 Daisy
1.10 Year 13 Fran, Year 9 Flo
Individual Eventers Challenge placings included:
1m Year 12 Daisy, Year 13 Lucy
Please see below for the full team and individual results.

News from the Chaplaincy
This Sunday’s Gospel: Mark 4:26-34
Gospel Reflection:
The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. The smallest of all seeds, yet once it is sown, it turns into the biggest shrub of all. It puts out big branches, so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade…
Two thousand years ago, the nascent Church was a church of the margins - full of outsiders, struggling, small. Today it might be argued that we find ourselves returning to the margins, and- some might argue - rightly so. For it is in the small seeds of our lives - the whispered prayer, the snatched moment of silence, the compassionate touch, the selfless gift, the act of love - that we discover the true Church. A Church borne, not of authority but of service and example. That is the Church we hope to grow, and when we plant tiny seeds of love, they will gradually turn into massive shrubs of community and, indeed, Church. This summer, let’s all become gardeners of God’s Kingdom.

PE Department Update
Rowing Success
After the news last week that OC Emily Craig won a gold medal at the World Rowing Cup, Year 11 Sophie is hoping to follow in her footsteps.
The rowing community has (like many) had a frustrating year, with restrictions limiting opportunities to head out onto the water. Sophie has trained hard on land throughout lockdown and has been very much looking forward to returning to training camp and competition.
In 2019, she was accepted onto the British Rowing World Class Start Programme and her scores at the Half Term 3-day residential testing camp at the National Watersports Centre saw her promoted from Class E to Class D! Well done Sophie!
A small squad of BBRC Juniors entered the Peterborough Spring Regatta that also took place in Half Term. This was a stripped-back Covid-safe regatta and their first following lockdown. In the Women’s J16 doubles, Sophie and her rowing partner won their heat in 3.52.9 and went on to win their final, beating Peterborough City A and B, and Gloucester RC in a time of 3.46.6! A fantastic effort!
Mayfield Cricket Club Reminder
Please remember that Mayfield Cricket Club holds girls-only training sessions on Wednesday evenings between 18:15 and 19:45. Anyone with a keen interest in Cricket and who wants to improve their game is very welcome.
