E-weekly Issue 170

Welcome from Mrs Green

A warm welcome back to the start of the Autumn Term and to all the new girls and families joining the Mayfield community.

I hope you all had a wonderful Summer and managed to spend some quality family time together, and that the girls have returned to School feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Thank you very much for your understanding and assistance with the Covid-19 testing which took place on Monday. Life is slowly returning to normal, but we remain vigilant and it is important that everyone continues to test twice a week as per my email to parents.

We are pleased to annouce that fixtures are up and running again, and that parents are now able to come and support home matches if they wish to.

I hope everyone is settling in well and enjoying being back at School in the sunshine with their friends.

Mrs Niamh Green, Acting Headmistress

Extra-Curricular Activities Fair

The first day of the induction programme was rounded off with the annual Activities Fair.  Here, our students were able to make their way round exciting stalls to experience many of the different Extra-Curricular Activities we offer here at Mayfield. Staff were able to offer insight into their clubs and activities, and it is exciting to see so many students signing up for these on SOCS.

The Extra-Curricular programme will be running from Monday 13th September. There is still time for students to sign up for clubs and activities if they have not done so already. If your daughter wishes to attend a paid lesson (various sports, Music, LAMDA, Duke of Edinburgh) you can find more details regarding who to contact in the Extra-Curricular booklet.

PE Department News

Last Friday and Saturday saw the return of hockey training to Mayfield for everyone in Years 9 to 12.

The Senior Squad participated in a high energy session on Friday afternoon, where they focussed on core skills and movement off the ball. Their dedication and hard work was evident, as was their excellent attitude!

Following a crucial refuel from Dominoes and video analysis of their performances, they headed off to Bowles Outdoor Centre for some team building activities in the evening. They took part in a range of activities to develop their communication, team work and trust including Over the Wall, Cave Crawling and Train Tracks.

Saturday morning arrived and with it some tired legs, but the girls worked really hard on their positional understanding and got stuck into game play.

Saturday afternoon saw the arrival of Years 9 and 10. Uptake for these sessions was high with over 35 girls in attendance. Spirits were high and the girls all worked really hard at training in their year group squads where they developed good on-pitch links, and refreshed their dribbling, passing and tackling skills.

The PE Department was delighted with the turnout and the commitment of the girls who came, and is very excited for the upcoming season.
