Year 9 Admissions

Candidates sitting the November Entrance Assessments into Year 9 must be registered by mid-September of the year preceding entry.
Thereafter you will be asked to complete an Examination Entry Form giving the School consent to contact your daughter’s current school for recent progress reports and a confidential Headteacher’s reference.  This form requires you to confirm which route of entry your daughter will follow and also gives you the opportunity to enter her for any of the Gifted and Talented Scholarships available.  Please click on the link below for more information.  Please note: Year 9 candidates are only eligible for consideration for an Academic Scholarship if they sit the Mayfield Scholarship Examinations.

Academic and Gifted & Talented Scholarships

Mayfield Entrance and Scholarship Assessments
All candidates taking this route will sit the School’s own Assessments in mid-November.  In addition to examinations in English, Mathematics, French, Geography, History, Latin (where appropriate), Religious Studies, Reasoning and the Sciences, each candidate will also be interviewed by the Headmistress and Head of Middle School.  Academic Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of girls’ performances in these examinations.  Those girls who do not reach a Scholarship standard may, nevertheless, be offered a place at the School on the strength of their results.  For guidance purposes, prospective Academic Scholars will be working at Level 7 or above in the National Curriculum.

ISEB 13+ Common Entrance Examination
Candidates taking this route will sit their examinations at their own preparatory school, either in February or June, and the papers will be marked by Mayfield’s own teachers.  Those girls who have chosen this route will be invited to attend a Pre-Assessment Day at Mayfield in mid-November, at which they will sit papers in English, Mathematics, Reasoning and the Sciences and also be interviewed by the Headmistress and Head of Middle School.
Following either of the Assessments offer letters will be sent out two weeks later.  If the School makes a formal offer of a place and you choose to accept it, you will be required to complete an Acceptance Form and return it with a deposit within a fixed period of time in order to secure the place.  Successful Common Entrance candidates will receive an offer conditional upon them achieving the results predicted by their Headteacher in the Common Entrance Assessments in February or June.

Late Entry
For candidates who have missed the November Assessments places may still be available.  Please contact our Registrar, to discuss this further. You should not be discouraged from applying at any stage.
