Mayfield Equestrian

Here in Mayfield’s Equestrian Department, we pride ourselves in supporting girls to achieve their equestrian goals alongside their academic goals in a friendly, knowledgeable yard. For some girls that will mean competing at an elite level, drawing on our years of experience and success at the very top level, while for others it means developing a passion for horses that lives on past their days at the School.

Our purpose built Equestrian Centre on site at the School allows girls (day or boarding), to stable their horses and have them cared for by our team of full-time staff. We pride ourselves on the way we look after the horses and ponies in our care. Their happiness and well-being is our priority, whether they are hacked out a few times per week or are an international competition horse.

Each horse or pony within our care has its own allocated stable, and can be looked after by our team of experienced grooms, under the supervision of our Yard Manager and other senior staff. Girls are encouraged to help with their horses in the evening activity sessions, and are instructed in the correct methods of stable management and basic horse care.

For girls who wish to develop their equestrian skills but do not have their own horse, we can help support them with this via a Loan Scheme which allows girls to join in with equestrian activities and to develop their competitive skills through inter-house competitions. For the more experienced riders, there are also opportunities to join our highly successful Equestrian Squad. Girls who have never ridden before can be accommodated at a local BHS approved Riding Centre, where we can arrange lessons for them. For all off-site activities, such as riding lessons, girls are accompanied by a member of Mayfield Staff.
