“For the seven years since I joined Mayfield, riding has been the biggest part of my school life. When I first began at the School, I was riding the amazing ‘Bunny’ and since then, there have been the inevitable highs and lows, but I have always had plenty of people around to support me - the girls in my team, girls in other teams, and even other parents.

“When I first arrived at Mayfield, I’d never owned a horse or done any competitions, let alone knowing how to tie a horse up. Thanks to the Equestrian Department, in six years, I have loaned, ridden and owned some amazing horses – ‘Bunny’, ‘Kate’, ‘Breasy’ and ‘JJ’, who have also helped me to compete in the U18 National Eventing Championships and achieve a 2* level.

“I’ve been at Mayfield for almost seven years now, but it feels like only yesterday that I arrived. The Equestrian Team has given me endless help and support with producing a young horse, and have not only made me a better rider, but has enabled me progress from barely jumping 70cm to going around CCI* tracks, and I can’t thank them enough. Without them I wouldn’t be the person I am today! It has been an incredible journey and producing my own horse has been second to none for me. I can look back and see how far I have come as a rider, and how much I have learnt that can be applied outside of riding - patience and perseverance for a start!

“Moving school for the Sixth Form is not without risk but we have been delighted at the way our daughter, and her horse, have settled into life at Mayfield. The friendliness of the girls and staff speaks volumes about the School ethos, and the good academic results gave us confidence she would be well supported.
“However, it was the provision for her horse and riding which tipped the balance for us. The obvious expertise and thoughtfulness shown by the Equestrian Team in discussing the needs of our eventer, alongside twice-weekly lessons with an international event rider and coach, proved too strong a lure versus better known ‘horsey’ boarding schools. The care, communication and provision for both daughter and horse have been excellent - thank you Mayfield!”
